Angles Matter

One thing I’m slowly learning with photography is that angles matter. They matter not only for the main subject of the photo, but also for the background. As an example of angles mattering, here are several pictures of a bee (perhaps the same bee) taken over a few days on the same flower. The final photo is my favorite of the bunch. (Note: The featured image of this post taken moments after second image below. It features an adorable bee leg, which is why it’s the featured photo.)

The final photo feels more isolated and focused on the bee. It’s also not obvious that the photo was taken in my yard, which is nice.

The pictured bees were not pleased with having their photo taken. The bees in general continue to be disappointed that neither me nor my camera are flowers. Perhaps one day I’ll make the bees happy. Until then I’ll just try not to annoy them too much while taking pictures.
